Bruce and Ming

Bruce and Ming went to the same school. Bruce liked sports. Ming liked English.

Bruce and his father had a hiking trip last Sunday. The weather was sunny and warm. Suddenly, the sky turned dark. There was a thunderstorm and it was windy too. The mountain path became wet and slippery. Bruce tripped over a rock and slipped down a slope. His father tried to hold onto him but he slipped down too. Both of them were sent to the hospital.

The next day, Ming went to visit Bruce in the hospital. Ming told Bruce about the school work. He also brought some English books and Miss Taylor's card to Bruce. They talked about English homework. Bruce was very happy to get Miss Taylor's card and the English books. He thanked Ming and they became good friends.

Uncle John's Vacation

Uncle John spent his summer vacation by visiting the Great Wall in Beijing. The Great Wall is the longest wall in the world. It is like a huge dragon stretching from one mountian to another. It seems to have no beginning and no end. Uncle John had never climbed so many steps before. It took him a long time to walk from one tower to another. He was tired but excited. He enjoyed standing on the tall tower because he could see far and wide. He felt great!

After he was back from the Great Wall visit, he went to Cheung Chau Island for the Bun Festival. He watched the procession along the main streets. There were lion dances and colourful floats. There were people playing Chinese music too. People stood in the streets and watched the procession.

After the festival, Uncle John had his supper at home. It was a meal of potluck. There was a lot of food in the pot: chicken, beef and vegetables. He had a great time with his family. He had a very enjoyable summer vacation.
